"Neurofeedback is a research-supported treatment to manage arousal, sharpen attention, relieve anxiety and improve learning... without medication."

About neurofeedback therapy

Neurofeedback therapy improves self-regulation of the brain and the nervous system.

When the nervous system is self-regulated and the mind is calm, a person can more easily adjust to new situations, reflect on and adapt their behaviour, focus their attention, remember instructions, plan how to approach and successfully complete tasks, and achieve longer-term goals.

Neurofeedback is a gentle, and non-invasive therapy that measures brainwave activity using EEG electrodes in the same way that an ECG measures your heart rate. The measurement of your brain activity then influences the programme you are watching on a monitor during the treatment, which creates feedback for the brain. As the brain can’t see itself, Neurofeedback acts like a mirror for the brain.

"The brain is quite self-absorbed. Most of what goes on in the brain,
is the brain talking to itself, about itself”
Siegfried Othmer, Ph.D BCIAC, Chief Scientist EEG Institute
How neurofeedback can help?
Neurofeedback is a method of training the activity and self-regulation of the central nervous system and has a wide range of applications. Neurofeedback is used as a therapeutic component in the treatment of various neurological conditions including:
-
Attention Deficit (and Hyperactivity) Disorder (ADD/ADHD)
-
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
-
Autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system
-
Addictions
-
Anxiety
-
Behaviour problems in children and young people
-
Chronic Pain
-
Depression, Burnout, Bipolar Disorder
-
Epilepsy
-
Focus – inability to focus or problems with staying on task
-
Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)
-
Menopause
-
Migraine
-
Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD)
-
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
-
Stress
-
Tinnitus
-
Trauma

How does it work?
The Neurofeedback practitioner analyses the EEG brainwave output using special software that adjusts what you are watching on the screen and hearing through the headphones. This change shows the brain what it’s doing – hence the name Neurofeedback, and the brain adjusts its activity to regulate and focus. It’s a bit like how top athletes train in front of a mirror, so they can see what adjustments they need to make in order to improve their performance.

What happens during a neurofeedback session?

Once the sensors are in place, you’ll watch a program, animation, or video game — something you enjoy and can focus on. Throughout the session, I may adjust the position of the sensors to target specific areas of the brain, based on your treatment goals.
During a neurofeedback therapy session, you’ll be seated comfortably while I place small electroencephalogram (EEG) sensors on your head — similar to the electrodes used in an ECG, which monitors heart activity. These sensors are secured with a special neurofeedback cream that washes out easily after your session.
Prior to your first appointment, you will complete an assessment of your symptoms and reason for treatment which we will discuss before you start treatment.

Treatment plan & pricing
How long is the session?
Each neurofeedback therapy session is an hour which allows time for us to discuss how you felt during the session, any changes in your symptoms from the previous session and the treatment plan going forward. Typically, the time you will be training, is around 45 minutes, except for the first three sessions, which are slightly shorter to allow your brain time to adjust and avoid fatigue.
How many sessions do I need to have?
It is recommended to have 20 sessions so that the brain can retain what it has learnt. Some conditions may require additional sessions, but there is often a noticeable response to treatment within the first 10 sessions.
How frequently are the sessions?
Treatment is most effective when sessions are booked twice a week or 2-3 days apart. In the beginning, the brain doesn't retain what it learns for more than a couple of days. It's a bit like exercising a muscle, it needs regular repetition to make progress.
How much does it cost?
£75.00 per session or £1,500 for a block of 20 sessions.
This can be paid at the time of each session or in blocks of sessions.
If your financial situation makes this cost difficult, please do get in touch to discuss options.. We are committed to finding ways to make neurofeedback accessible.
